Real, anointed, and heartfelt are the words that come to mind when one listens to the artistic flow of Kevin Megginson better known as “Da Fisherman”. Kevin grew up on the streets of Baltimore, the same streets that are his living testimony talked about in his lyrics. After giving his life totally to Christ in 2001, Kevin vowed to spread the gospel to the same streets that almost claimed his life. He has ministered at almost all of the churches in the Baltimore/Washington area, the NewPsalmistBaptistChurch’s Kingdom Conference held at the BaltimoreConvention Center, and several other gospel radio events. Because of Kevin’s faithfulness to his promise, God has taken him beyond the city limits. “Da Fisherman” is now making his way up and down the East Coast. He has performed at the Apollo Theatre, at the McDonald’s Gospel Fest 2003 & 2004, and has gained additional popularity in the southern states.

GMM: How did "Da Fisherman" come about?

Kevin:  Back in 2001, God gave me a vision to do gospel hip-hop. Now, at the time I thought it was a joke. "Gospel Hip-Hop"? [PLEASE]. Nevertheless this is what God wanted me to do. So one day I called the youth pastor at my church Rev. George Tarrant,at the time. I told him that I rapped and I would like to be in their upcoming Youth & Young Adult Conference. Well, this was on a Tuesday and he said," come up to my youth discipleship class and rap for them. If they like you I will put you in the conference". I wasn't ready for that. However, I trusted that this is what God wanted me to do. So I went up to the church, shacking in my boots. No radio, no CD, nothing, just me and the hope and faith that God would meet me there. Rev. Tarrant call me up and with no music I rapped. The youth loved it and I was added to the conference. Me and a friend of mine rocked the conference that year and I have been moving forward ever since.

GMM: What were some of your greatest challenges in becoming what God called you to be?

Kevin: First, I had to believe in myself. Next, I had to believe that this is really what God called me to be. Then, I had to make sacrifices. I had to leave a lot of people, places, and things. Sometimes went you are walking on the path of purpose it can get a little lonely. At that moment in life, you really need to maintain a love relationship with Christ.

GMM:  What does your music say about who you are and who God called you to be?

Kevin:  My music saids it all. It lets the listener know I am real. It lets this them know that in a dark place God sent a man like me to help show them the light through my music.

GMM:  How has all this changed your life?
Kevin: One thing for sure it has brought me closer to God. It has taught me how to become a better man, husband, and father.

GMM:  What positive change would you like your music to bring about?

Kevin:  I want my music to first assist in the change of the city of Baltimore. I love this city my home town and I believe it can change for the better.

GMM:  Where do you see God taking you next?

Kevin:  I see God moving this ministry outside of the city limits and across the nation. Hopefully in the near future I will be going over seas.

GMM:  We thank you Kevin for sharing what God is doing in your life as well as the new release of your CD. Please everybody get a copy of Da Fisherman

Kevin:  Thank You.
